Enamel cloisonne sunflower ring made with fine, sterling silver silver and Japanese glass enamel.
Approx. size of the top 23 mm
First fine silver base is fabricated, then tine fine silver wires meticulously bent by hand (and tweezers) into the shapes you see. Then granules of ground up glass (enamels) placed in between the wires and melted in the kiln. Some pieces have as much as 15 layers of enamel. After that piece gets grinded and polished till it sparkles which takes also numerous steps.
Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, it's when material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing. The powder melts in the special kiln at 1500 degree F, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating.
