Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, it's when material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing. The powder melts in the special kiln at 1500 degree F, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. Don't be fooled with cold enamel (resin), which doesn't require firings in the kiln. Tiny silver wires bent according the sketch and then attached to the silver base, filled with enamel and fired in the kiln numerous times. Then grinded on a diamond wheel, polished with different grits of polishing paper and wheels all done by hand.
